Look and Listen

Open and close the door while standing at a safe distance. Listen for grinding, scraping, popping, or unusually loud operation. Watch for shaking, jerking, or uneven movement.

Keep the Tracks Clear

Keep boxes, tools, leaves, and debris away from the tracks and the path of the door. Do not loosen, bend, or reposition track hardware yourself.

Check the Bottom Seal

Look for cracks, tears, or gaps in the weather seal along the bottom of the door. A worn seal can let in water, dirt, drafts, and pests.

Keep Safety Sensors Clean

Gently wipe dust and cobwebs from the photo-eye sensors near the floor. Make sure storage, toys, or other objects are not blocking their line of sight.

Check Visible Hardware

Without touching springs or cables, look for loose-looking brackets, rust, frayed cable strands, bent parts, or anything that appears out of place.

Schedule Preventive Service

If the door gets heavy use or has not been inspected in a long time, professional maintenance can catch wear before it becomes a bigger repair.

Warning signs

See this?
Call M&O.

If the door appears unsafe, stop using it, keep people and vehicles clear, and call for an inspection.

Broken or Stretched Spring

A visible gap in a torsion spring, a loud bang from the garage, or a door that suddenly feels extremely heavy can point to a spring problem.

Call M&O

Frayed or Loose Cable

If a cable looks frayed, slack, tangled, or has come off, do not pull on it or try to reconnect it. The system may be under dangerous tension.

Call M&O

Door Is Crooked or Off Track

If one side is higher than the other, rollers have left the track, or the door is hanging unevenly, stop operating it until it can be inspected.

Call M&O

Door Will Not Stay Open

A door that falls, drifts downward, or will not stay in position may have a balance or spring issue that needs professional attention.

Call M&O

Grinding, Popping, or Shaking

New or severe noises, jerking, or shaking can signal worn hardware, track issues, rollers, opener problems, or other mechanical wear.

Opener Runs but Door Does Not Move

If the motor sounds normal but the door does not move correctly, avoid repeated attempts. There may be a disconnected or damaged component.

Safety first

Leave high-tension parts to a professional.

Do not loosen, cut, wind, unwind, or attempt to replace springs, cables, drums, or related hardware. These components can store significant force.
